welcome back to the kitchen table!!! so glad you’re all here, let’s catch up!

May feels like the month when I can finally breathe. no more winter puffer coats, no more dark mornings, the flowers have bloomed, and the trees are thick enough to provide shade again. it is peak spring and I couldn’t be happier. (ok, well, the weather could be a little warmer and sunnier, but I digress)

you may have noticed, but this newsletter has moved from coming out on the first of the month to the middle of the month. the reason for that is simply that I can’t keep up lol. the months are flying by and the 1st of the month feels too soon for me to send a whole newsletter on the topic. so, for now, they’ll be mid-month! and there will be a recipe or two at the end of this post, along with 1-2 more coming before June arrives.

this is the time of year I like to call pre-summer, because spring – as much as I love it – is really just preparing us for the joys and the warmth of summertime. pre-summer has some fantastic produce (though, not as good as summer’s produce), which makes for some fantastic food!

state of the union: May

the “out” list is shorter bc this season makes me happy so I don’t feel the need to hate on as many things!! I will not be elaborating thank u

life updates:

new puppy, northern lights from a plane, maho beach, ribs plate, me on the beach, lobster, Bloody Mary, sunchoke ravioli, caviar mozzarella stick.

WE GOT A PUPPY! This is George, he’s adorable but also a menace. we love him! Frank is not so sure if he loves him yet, but he will. Last week, we went down to Saint Martin/Sint Maarten in the Caribbean for a week. Beautiful island (right by St. Barths & Anguilla and near Puerto Rico kinda) that is split in half with one side owned by the French and one owned by the Dutch. We ate lots of food (see lobster, ribs from Captains Rib Shack), drank lots of drinks (see Bloody Mary number idk and me holding a “pornstar spritz”), and watched planes land right next to the beach! The ravioli-looking-thing you see there is a rather complicated dish I made: Sunchoke Agnolotti with Lemon Brown Butter & Ramp Oil. There will be deets below. Finally, a caviar topped cheese stick from Chelsea Living Room! how fun!

things i’m obsessed with:

I haven’t been doing much shopping lately, so here are some other things I’ve been loving.

TV Shows:

  • Shogun on Hulu: like if Game of Thrones was set in ancient Japan and maybe a little more realistic. I really enjoyed this show, but there are 2 warnings. 1 - there are a lot of non-english portions of the show so you do have to pay attention and read the subtitles. 2 - it’s very violent.

  • The Gentlemen on Netflix: reminds me of Ozark but a little less dark and spooky, and in a totally different setting. basically, a rich guy inherits a massive property, finds out there’s essentially a weed cartel operating on the land. as is expected, he gets involved and it gets messy. plus, the main character is played by Theo James so…yeah just watch it.

  • Silo on Apple TV: this is probably my number 1 show at the moment. it is SO good! Based on a book series, it’s a post-apocalyptic world where the society all lives in an underground Silo. they don’t know how they got there, and outside is poisonous. everything about outside is very secretive, and if you ask too many questions about outside, they’ll send you outside and you won’t come back. Rebecca Ferguson is the main character (she also plays the mom in Dune 1 and Dune 2), and it is SUCH A GOOD SHOW. I need the next season.

  • Palm Royale on Apple TV: just a good fun show. kind of girly vibes but anyone could enjoy it. Kristen Wiig is the main character!

eats + deets

summer strawberries with balsamic, sunchoke ravioli/agnolotti, healthier egg salad
